Tribute to Women May 1, 2009

Filed under: SMRC General — smrctributetowomen @ 10:38 am

We are nothing without the women in our lives. Life begins with a woman’s care and support. Yet women around the world remain unnoticed, underappreciated and extremely marginalized around the world. Women achieve every day acts that are unthinkably challenging in the name of survival. The care they provide their families is essential to global peace and prosperity. When women have income, their families fare substantially better than when they do not. Women provide the most powerful leadership for health and education. Women will save this world.

Student Movement for Real Change (SMRC) is spending 10 days this month in anticipation of Mothers’ Day on May 10, to recognize extraordinary women around the world. Their commitments, successes and challenges overcome represent the hope for humanity. When SMRC works in communities, we value women as uniquely equipped to provide effective grassroots organizing and leadership. Whenever we possibly can, we work with women.

At our special SMRC Tribute to Women website, we will be posting links, personal stories, videos and testimonials every day for the next ten days before Mother’s Day.

We invite you to take part in this special opportunity to pay a tribute to the women in your life and honor your mother this Mother’s Day. Read stories, comment on ideas, post articles, watch videos, and join us here as we recognize women’s struggles and achievements. Check the site often, we will be updating multiple times every day!

To kick off this campaign we would like to share Mourine Masha’s story with you. Mourine is a 28 year old mother in Kenya very close to our hearts. Watch the video below and learn about her daily life as the mother of three in Kayafungo.
